One of the great benefits of having nothing to do at home on a lazy Saturday afternoon is rediscovering a chapter of my childhood or pre-teen life in the Philippines. This chapter would include the randomness that is the Polly Pocket, Rainbow Brite, Jem and the Holograms, Beverly Hills 90210, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, Shining Time Station and the one and only...
OH TOKYO.
As I was watching random clips of the TV show Ninja Warrior, that ultimate Japanese test of strength, I realized that I missed OH TOKYO so damn much.
OH TOKYO is basically an AWESOME look at life in Japan, through the eyes of our very own favorite Filipina tourguide, ELLEN. Seriously, my sisters and I loved that show so much. It was hilarious yet very educational at the same time. Basically, Ellen, who is married to a Japanese (and speaks it fluently because she is KICKASS), goes around the city, talks to other Filipinos who work in various Japanese industries, tastes food from different restaurants and pretty much MAKES US WANT TO BE JAPANESE.
I would love how she'd taste some Japanese dish, open her eyes WIDE and say (into her huge ass microphone, with the wire) "HMMMMMM...MASARAP!" or how she would talk to some Japanese person in perfect Japanese, then look at the camera and say... "Sabi po ni Mr. ______, *Filipino translation*" HAHA. AMAZING.
ANYWAY, so I went to look up the show on google and to my lovely surprise, THEY HAVE FULL EPISODES ON SOME WEBSITE! OMG! I felt like it was Christmas. Now I am watching it, and will continue to watch it the whole afternoon until it is time for me to go out and run.
Nothing like spending the afternoon, remembering how simple life used to be...when we were able to watch OH TOKYO regularly. HA.
"NAKAKATUWA, ANO?"
